Ancient Evil

PPCStudios and Silver Lightning Software are putting the final touches on their RPG game Ancient Evil. Set in the mysterious Crypt of the Ancients, the spirit of Jetraal (a hero dead over 300 years) has returned to warn you of a rising threat.

The game is presented in a 3D isometric view (like Diablo and others) and features dozens of creatures. You will also help your character improve as you battle your way through 25 subterranean levels. The graphics look great and the game will be available with both native support for both QVGA and VGA Pocket PC devices.

Ancient Evil can be preordered from Clickgamer for $19.95 USD ($24.95 USD on August 1). If you preorder, you will also receive a free mystery game.

Gartner assessesment of the iPAQ hw6500

iPAQ hw6500

Gartner has weighed in with an assessment of the recently released HP iPAQ hw6500. In their opinion, although the hw6500 offers more advanced wireless capabilities than most other PDAs, compromises around some specifications will limit its appeal. For example, Gartner feels that the relatively small screen will not appeal to GPS users who are used to large, high resolution screens. They also express concern around the low-capacity 1,200-milliampere-hour battery and 312 MHz Intel processor which will not be powerful enough. And there are more concerns around the fact that the hw6500 does not come with Windows Mobile 5.0.

I suspect that the last point will be addressed with future hw6500 models and possibly with an upgrade for the existing models.

I should warn you before you get too excited that the information on the page is not very clear. The same page also refers to a WiFi SD card (as does the title). Maybe that miniSD picture should not be there…
