HTC Touch

Remember how Rogers let slip earlier (but quickly pulled back the pages) that it would offer the HTC Touch? Well, it seems that those pages are back. Things don’t quite look ready for prime time though as the page title refers to the HTC TyTN.

In terms of specs, the Touch is powered by a 201MHz TI OMAP procesor and Windows Mobile 6 Professional. It comes with tri-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE support, 64MB RAM and 128MB ROM, a 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen, a 2MP camera, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 and a microSD expansion slot. Weighing in at only 112 grams, it measures 99.9 x 58 x 13.9 millimeters.

Pricing is rumoured to range from CAD$349 for a three-year data-only plan to CAD$199 for a three-year voice and data plan.

So Rogers, is an official announcement coming soon?

Palm Treo 750v

Vodafone Treo 750v users got their Windows Mobile 6 upgrade back in August. It is finally the turn of other Treo 750 users to get their turn.

As with the Vodafone upgrade, it gives you Windows Mobile 6 Professional as well as an update for the Loss of System Sounds enhancement, improved calendar management, enhanced email messaging, HTML/Smart Filtering, and SharePoint access, USB cable charging and more.

Interestingly, this upgrade has a higher version number than the original Vodafone one. It’s not clear exactly what is different though. If you already upgraded your Vodafone Treo, Palm is promising that a revised update will be available shortly.

When it’s not iPhone rumours, it’s Google phone rumours. If the Wall Street Journal is right, Google is about to announce a suite of advanced software and services for mobile phones. Not only would phone manufacturers be able to incorporate these ad-powered services into their phones, but Google could even make the operating system completely open, allowing independent developers to add their own features.

Among the services that this mobile suite will offer will be the usual suspects, including Google’s search engine, Google Maps, YouTube and Gmail.

Among manufacturers rumoured to have been approached by Google are HTC (who has perhaps gone as far as building prototypes) and LG Electronics. Google is also looking to partner with mobile operator such as T-Mobile and Orange.

The announcement is expected within the next two weeks and Google-powered mobile handsets could arrive by mid-2008.

Latest Rogers Canadian iPhone rumour denied by Rogers

Apple iPhone

It was too good to be true. And too poor a Photoshop job to hold up to close scrutiny. Yesterday’s rumour about the iPhone landing at Rogers Wireless on December 7th has been put to rest by Rogers. A terse statement issued by email by a Rogers spokesperson indicated that the ad that surfaced “was not produced by Rogers. Nothing further to announce on iPhone”.

Hopefully Apple and Rogers see all these rumours (Holt Renfrew, Molson contest) as a clear sign of pent-up Canadian demand for the iPhone and come to an agreement sooner than later. Otherwise, we’ll all be crossing the border and unlocking our iPhones…

Thanks, Aaron!
