Nokia Lumia 900Earlier rumours have suggested that AT&T will launch the Nokia Lumia 900 on March 18th. A leaked AT&T roadmap obtained today by BGR supports this date and adds the last missing detail: Pricing.

If accurate, the document indicates that AT&T will offer the Nokia Lumia 900 for US$99.99 with a two-year contract. Despite the fact that the Lumia 900 does not have the most powerful specs out there, it’s still an aggressive price for what is Nokia’s flagship device.

BGR adds that the Lumia 900 has not received its technical acceptance yet. This could affect the launch date.

Nokia Lumia 900If you have been eyeing the new Nokia Lumia 900 but not willing to sign up with AT&T, there may be some good news for you. A rumour now suggests that the carrier’s exclusive will only last 45 days. After that, other U.S. carriers could ask to carry it as well. The single “source at a rival wireless carrier” adds that T-Mobile appears quite interested with Verizon and Sprint somewhat more undecided (and waiting to see how well it sells at AT&T first). A launch at any of these carriers could occur as early as sometime in Q3 2012.

The source adds that versions of the Lumia 900 released by these other carriers may also be improved to sport a 12MP camera rather than the 8MP one.

WinSuperSite‘s Paul Thurrott warns that has not validated this rumour with other sourecs and warns to take it “with the necessary grain of salt.”

Rumours had suggested that AT&T would introduce three new Windows Phone devices at CES 2012. Only two, the HTC Titan II and Nokia Lumia 900, were announced with the Samsung Mandel missing in action. While it remains unclear why it was not announced, a UAProf document obtained by PocketNow suggests that the device does in fact exist.

UAProf for Samsung Mandel

The document for the Samsung SGH-i667 shows a device with a WVGA screen resolution and Internet Explorer as the browser, suggesting it is a Windows Phone device. The “SGH-i” prefix hints at an AT&T device. The document also confirms LTE connectivity. Together, it all points to it being the Samsung Mandel.

Did Samsung and AT&T decide to postpone the announcement? Could it be instead announced at the upcoming Mobile World Congress? Stay tuned…

The HTC Radiant is one of three Windows Phone devices that AT&T is rumoured to announce next week at CES 2012. Little was known about it until a leaked image surfaced today.

It appears to share many similarities with the HTC Titan (which AT&T already offers) but there are also a few differences. These include the camera LED flashes switching sides and what appears to be a larger front-facing camera. It may also not be possible to replace the battery without having it serviced.

Rumoured HTC Radiant

There are still no details on the specifications. PocketNow suggests that it will come with a 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor and 512MB of RAM. It may also retain the 4.7-inch WVGA display of the HTC Titan. A larger battery may also have been added to deal with LTE connectivity power consumption.

The HTC Radiant is expected to be announced next week at CES 2012.

Windows PhoneMicrosoft and Nokia have promised a big marketing push for Windows Phone once it makes its U.S. debut. Just how big is now coming to light as details emerge about the marketing plans to support the launch.

Microsoft, Nokia and AT&T could between them spend about US$100 million on the Nokia Ace which is scheduled to launch in March. The carrier has given the device “hero” status meaning that AT&T will itself promote the device in advertising and its retail network. The success of the Nokia Ace will also determine whether a future device could also be given “hero” status for the next holiday season.

Another US$100 million will be spent by Microsoft and other hardware partners (such as Samsung). Aside from the significant advertising blitz we can expect, one program will focus on sales incentives for retail employees. Payments of between US$10 and US$15 made could be made for each Windows Phone device sold, depending on the number sold. The hope is that this will translate to sales people recommending Windows Phone devices over Android and iOS ones.

Windows PhoneBoth HTC and Samsung appear set to join Nokia in getting LTE Windows Phone devices ready probably sometime in early 2012. According to “people familiar with Microsoft’s plans,” both devices will sport a pre-Tango version of Windows Phone with LTE support.

Little is known about the HTC Radiant. A little more is known about the Samsung device. Codenamed Mandel, it will apparently sport a display larger than the 4.3-inch one found on the Samsung Focus S.

As for carriers that could offer the new devices, WinSupersite’s Paul Thurrott reports that the HTC Radiant and Samsung Mandel will join the Nokia Ace at AT&T. The Nokia Ace will be out first, as early as March 18th with the other two to follow before the middle of 2012. It’s unclear whether any of these will also be offered on Verizon’s LTE network (past rumours suggested Verizon was testing the Lumia 800). Formal announcements could come at CES in early January 2012.

AT&TAfter a number of setbacks, AT&T today announced that it has ended its US$39 billion bid to acquire T-Mobile USA. side from concerns and lawsuits from competitors, AT&T faced intense scrutiny from both the Federal Communications Commission and the Department of Justice and lays the blame at their feet:

The actions by the Federal Communications Commission and the Department of Justice to block this transaction do not change the realities of the U.S. wireless industry. It is one of the most fiercely competitive industries in the world, with a mounting need for more spectrum that has not diminished and must be addressed immediately. The AT&T and T-Mobile USA combination would have offered an interim solution to this spectrum shortage. In the absence of such steps, customers will be harmed and needed investment will be stifled.

AT&T promises to “continue to be aggressive in leading the mobile Internet revolution” and to invest to meet its customers’ needs but calls on policymakers to “allow the free markets to work” and to “enact legislation to meet our nation’s longer-term spectrum needs.”

The end of AT&T’s bid will see it pay a US$4 billion break-up fee to Deutsche Telekom, T-Mobile’s parent company. It also announced a “mutually beneficial” roaming agreement with Deutsche Telekom that will allow devices to work on both the AT&T and T-Mobile networks.
