SamsungSamsung has posted new details about its Android 4.0 upgrade plans for devices offered by U.S. carriers. The list does not provide specific timelines and Samsung warns that “this list may be altered as updates are confirmed or released.”

AT&T leads the pack with six devices, including the Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note, and Nexus S, scheduled for updates. Sprint and Verizon both have two devices up for updates. Samsung and T-Mobile USA are still “in close communication” to determine which devices will be updated.

The following Wi-Fi-only devices are also scheduled for updates: the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, the Galaxy Tab 8.9 Wi-Fi, and the Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wi-Fi.

It should come as no surprise that both the original Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab are not listed. Despite an outcry about its decision, Samsung has yet to reverse its stand on providing updates for these devices.

Only one update is currently available. It is for Sprint’s Nexus S 4G (SPH-d720).

HTC One XAT&T today announced that the HTC One X, HTC’s latest flagship device, will be available as of May 6th. It will be its first smartphone to run Google Android 4.0.

An all-around workhorse with unique customer benefits, the HTC One X is the flagship of HTC’s One line of smartphones. Combined with the nation’s largest 4G network, with 4G LTE backed by AT&T’s HSPA+ network, the One X becomes the complete package for Android users.

The HTC One X model that AT&T will offer will come with LTE connectivity. As a result, it will sport a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor rather than the quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor found in the international version.

AT&T will offer the HTC One X for US$199.99 with a two-year contract. Pre-orders will begin April 22nd.

Nokia Lumia 900Very good news for Nokia Lumia 900 owners! Nokia today released a patch for a data connectivity issue that plagued some Nokia Lumia 900 devices.

We promised a software fix for April 16th but today, we’d like to share with you that the update is already available – three days ahead of schedule.

The update is now available through Zune for Windows (or Windows Phone 7 Connector if you have a Mac).

The offers that Nokia made earlier in the week remain in effect: Customers can replace their affected Lumia 900 with an upgraded one through AT&T stores and anyone who purchases a Lumia 900 by April 21st will get a $100 credit (both in Canada and the U.S.)

Nokia Lumia 900On the heels of the launch of the Lumia 900 in both Canada and the U.S., Nokia has confirmed that it has identified “a memory management issue was discovered that could, in some cases, lead to loss of data connectivity.” If there is good news to be found here, it is that the issue is purely a software problem rather than hardware or even something with AT&T’s network.

A fix is already in the works. Nokia is aiming to release a software update to correct this issue on April 16th. The update will be pushed through Zune.

In the U.S., Nokia is also offering to swap out affected units with new upgraded ones. It will also give anyone who purchased or will purchase a Lumia 900 by April 21st a US$100 credit on their AT&T bill.

Update: Good news! Nokia has also confirmed that Canadians will also be entitled to the refund: According to Phil Schwarzmann, Nokia’s Head of Social Media for North America: “For our friends in Canada – Anyone who has already purchased the Lumia 900 or purchases it from now until April 21st, will be getting a $100 credit on their Rogers bill.”

AT&T will ship pre-orders on April 5th. This should ensure that you have it in your hands a few days before it hits stores.

If you prefer to pick it up on launch day, you will need to wait until April 8th, the same day that AT&T launches the HTC Titan II.

AT&TAT&T today confirmed to CNET that it will launch both the Nokia Lumia 900 and HTC Titan II on April 8th. The devices will be the carrier’s first 4G LTE Windows Phone devices.

Confirming rumours, AT&T will offer the Nokia Lumia 900 for US$99.99 with a two-year contract. This makes it one of AT&T’s cheapest flagship devices ever. The HTC Titan II, with its larger 4.7-inch display and 16MP camera, will sell for US$199.99.

With its aggressive pricing, Nokia is hoping that the Lumia 900 will prove to be a strong seller and allow the manufacturer to begin to reestablish its U.S. presence.

AT&T will begin taking pre-orders for the Nokia Lumia 900 on March 30th. Both black and blue models will be offered.

Nokia Lumia 900While Nokia and AT&T only promised a launch “in the coming months” when they announced the LTE-enabled Lumia 900 at CES 2012, rumours have so far pointed to a March launch, possibly March 18th. BGR has now learned that the launch has slipped to April as technical acceptance has taken longer than expected.

The report adds that AT&T has now rescheduled the launch for April 22nd both online and in stores.

If there is sliver of good news in all this, it is that the starting price remains unchanged at the rumoured US$99.99.

32GB Wi-Fi CA$619 US$599
64GB Wi-Fi CA$719 US$699
16GB Wi-Fi + 4G CA$649 US$629
32GB Wi-Fi + 4G CA$749 US$729
64GB Wi-Fi + 4G CA$849 US$829

Forgive me for saying this but what is up with that name? How long will it stay “new?” Will it become the old ‘New iPad’ when Apple unveils the fourth generation iPad? Would you say, “Hi Honey, I bought a new ‘New iPad’ today.” As boring as names such as iPad 3 or iPad HD are, they differentiate the latest iPad from its predecessors. This name just invites confusion (I’m trying to be kind).

NokiaThe Verge has learned that Nokia is working on at least two new Windows Phone 8 smartphones specifically for AT&T. The Nokia Prodigy is expected to a high-end “superphone” while the AC/DC should be a mid-range device. There are no additional details about either device at this point.

The rumour follows earlier ones of Microsoft testing a 1.5GHz dual-core Windows Phone smartphone for Sprint. HTC is also rumoured to be working on Windows Phone 8 devices. Details on Windows Phone 8 itself also leaked out last month.

Could we see the Nokia Prodigy and AC/DC in September at Nokia World 2012?

Nokia Lumia 900Earlier rumours have suggested that AT&T will launch the Nokia Lumia 900 on March 18th. A leaked AT&T roadmap obtained today by BGR supports this date and adds the last missing detail: Pricing.

If accurate, the document indicates that AT&T will offer the Nokia Lumia 900 for US$99.99 with a two-year contract. Despite the fact that the Lumia 900 does not have the most powerful specs out there, it’s still an aggressive price for what is Nokia’s flagship device.

BGR adds that the Lumia 900 has not received its technical acceptance yet. This could affect the launch date.

Nokia Lumia 900If you have been eyeing the new Nokia Lumia 900 but not willing to sign up with AT&T, there may be some good news for you. A rumour now suggests that the carrier’s exclusive will only last 45 days. After that, other U.S. carriers could ask to carry it as well. The single “source at a rival wireless carrier” adds that T-Mobile appears quite interested with Verizon and Sprint somewhat more undecided (and waiting to see how well it sells at AT&T first). A launch at any of these carriers could occur as early as sometime in Q3 2012.

The source adds that versions of the Lumia 900 released by these other carriers may also be improved to sport a 12MP camera rather than the 8MP one.

WinSuperSite‘s Paul Thurrott warns that has not validated this rumour with other sourecs and warns to take it “with the necessary grain of salt.”
