Eastlink launched its wireless network in Nova Scotia and PEI last week along with a single retail store in Halifax. It has now launched a second retail location at the Halifax Shopping Centre.

More locations are scheduled to open “in the weeks to come.” One will be at the Sunnyside Mall in Bedford and Mic Mac Mall in Dartmouth. Another seven locations, including some in PEI, are expected to follow within the next 18 months. Eastlink, has in the past, said that it would not rush the deployment of its network. As company CEO Lee Bragg explained, “There’s no first to market advantage for us, we’re not in a big panic. We really want to do this right.”

Eastlink offers a combination of plans without contracts as well as bundles that include other Eastlink services (including TV and Internet). Among the devices it offers are the Sony Xperia T, Samsung Galaxy S III, Google Nexus 4, and the BlackBerry Bold 9900.

Canada’s Maritimes will have a new wireless carrier come Friday. Eastlink today confirmed that it will launch its wireless network on February 15th as earlier rumours had suggested. Unlike other new carriers, Eastlink will launch with an LTE network. “There are a lot more devices available if you have LTE,” explained Matthew MacLellan, Eastlink’s wireless president.

As expected, Eastlink’s network will focus on Novia Scotia and Prince Edward Island with coverage to blanket both provinces almost completely within 18 months of the launch:

Eastlink’s smartphone lineup will include the Sony Xperia T, Samsung Galaxy S III, LG Nexus 4 and two BlackBerry 7 devices. The BlackBerry Z10 will be offered starting next month. One flagship device that will not be offered will be the Apple iPhone 5.

As for plans, Eastlink has only confirmed that it will offer wireless services as part of bundles that offer customers discounts when they sign up for multiple products. Monthly price plans are also likely but we may have to wait until Friday to learn more about them.

Canada could have a new carrier by the end of the next week. According to TechVibes, Eastlink will finally launch its wireless network on February 15th. Initial coverage will include Nova Scotia, the company’s home province, and Prince Edward Island.

At one point, Eastlink had been expected to launch its wireless network in 2011. But it has not been in a rush to launch with company CEO Lee Bragg explaining last year that, “There’s no first to market advantage for us, we’re not in a big panic. We really want to do this right.”

There are no specific details about the launch yet (especially as Eastlink has not announced it yet). Information about devices available, plans offered will come with the imminent announcement. After unveiling a new logo back in April, Eastlink today unveiled four stores featuring a redesigned look. The move comes as the company expands its retail presence in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. The new stores offer a more open concept promising a “highly interactive, hands-on experience of all the company’s products and services.”

The new retail environment is designed to promote a warm, inviting and family-friendly atmosphere. Parents of young children can experience Eastlink’s video entertainment services in the comfort of a home theatre-like setting, while the little ones enjoy a kid zone designed with them in mind.

EastLinkA new wireless carrier is set to launch on Canada’s East Coast in 2012. EastLink will offer both voice and data services, according to Jill Laing, manager of public and media relations for EastLink.

“If you look at the exploding demand for voice and data … and the kind of mobile applications that people are using their hand-held devices for these days, that’s what this will be for, as well as advanced business data services,” Laing said.

EastLink has begun to build out the necessary network with applications for 13 new towers and installation of some 20 rooftop antennas in Halifax. Similar work is also underway in other areas of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.

EastLink already offers other services including telephone, television and internet. Much as others do, it is likely that it will offer new bundles with wireless service when it launches.
