BlackBerry Z10Just in case you did not already have this date booked in your calendar, the BlackBerry Z10, the first BlackBerry 10 device, goes on sale today. Here is a list of carriers offering it today:

  • Bell: CA$149.95 with a three-year contract
  • Fido: From CA$350 with a two-year contract to CA$600 outright
  • Koodo: From CA$400 with CA$150 Tab to CA$550 outright
  • Rogers: From CA$139.99 with a three-year contract to CA$599.99 with a monthly plan
  • SaskTel: From CA$149.99 with a three-year contract to CA$599.99 outright
  • TELUS: CA$149.99 with a three-year contract / Shipping begins February 12th
  • Virgin Mobile Canada: CA$149.99 with a three-year contract

Mobility, MTS, Videotron and WIND Mobile have also confirmed that they will carry the BlackBerry Z10. They will not launch it today but in the near future.

While the BlackBerry Z10 will be offered in both black and white, the white version may prove difficult to find as initial quantities appear to have been more limited and reserved for those who reserved it ahead of today’s launch.

It is now easier to list the Canadian carriers not planning to launch BlackBerry 10 devices than the ones who are. Koodo, Mobilicity and WIND Mobile today all confirmed their intention to offer BlackBerry 10 smartphones soon. As with Bell, Rogers, SaskTel, TELUS, and Virgin Mobile, no specific details were provided – We can expect those after Research In Motion’s announcement on January 30th.

Koodo made their announcement via a Facebook exclusive: “The new BlackBerry 10 is coming soon to Koodo!” Mobilicity and WIND Mobile confirmed their intent via emails sent to MobileSyrup.

Research In Motion will unveil its BlackBerry 10 smartphones (an all-touch and one with a QWERTY keyboard) in only 19 days. The devices are expected to hit the street shortly after.

Samsung Galaxy S IIIKoodo made good on its promise today and became the latest Canadian carrier to offer the Samsung Galaxy S III [product information]. It is already available at Koodo Shops and will be available “soon” at other retail partners.

Koodo is also offering a free $100 bonus gift when you buy the Samsung Galaxy S III with a new activation on the Tab at participating Koodo Shops locations. The offer will be available while quantities last.

Koodo is offering the Samsung Galaxy S III for CA$400 on the Koodo Tab or CA$550 outright.

Samsung Galaxy S IIITwo more Canadian carriers will soon be offering the Samsung Galaxy S III [product information].

Koodo yesterday issued a brief statement on their blog to let everyone know that they are “working to get the Samsung Galaxy S III for you on November 30.”

For its part, MTS has begun to take pre-orders for Samsung’s flagship smartphone. Few details are available online; you will need to visit an MTS Connect Store to place your pre-order. No launch date was provided.

Neither Koodo or MTS has yet to provide pricing details.

Samsung Galaxy S IIIThe Samsung Galaxy S III [specifications] is already carried by a significant number of Canadian carriers. That list is about to grow longer with confirmation that it is also headed to Koodo.

In a response to a question on its forums, a Koodo employee responded:

I have a bit of good news to share…..after many of you asked us to look into carrying the Galaxy S3, we took your recco and it now looks like we will have it before the end of the year. We are in the midst of talking to Samsung and will share dates as soon as we know

There are no specific availability and pricing details yet but you can expect them fairly soon.

On Thursday, Koodo tweeted that it was about to launch its LTE network and it did so quietly yesterday. There have been no formal announcements yet but it has updated its coverage map with bright pink for LTE. It includes Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa Toronto, and Vancouver among others.

Not surprisingly, Koodo’s LTE coverage is the same as that of TELUS, its parent company.

Koodo currently offers only one LTE device, the 16GB Apple iPhone 5 which launched yesterday. It sells it for CA$520 with a CA$150 tab or CA$180 with a three-year contract.

Today is the day that the Apple iPhone 5 goes on sale. Hopefully you pre-ordered it or are already in a line-up (or even already have it) as Apple looks to have another record seller on its hands. It received 2 million pre-orders in the first 24 hours alone and online orders now show availability in three to four weeks.

In Canada, the iPhone 5 is available directly from Apple. The 16GB model sells for CA$699.00, the 32GB for CA$799.00, and the 64GB for CA$899.00. It will be tied to a carrier upon purchase.

Carrier pricing starts at CA$179 (or a few pennies more) for the 16GB model with a three-year contract. The 32GB model sells for CA$279 and the 64GB one for CA$379, again with three-year contracts. Bell, Fido, Koodo, Rogers, TELUS and Virgin Mobile are all selling it as of today.

It will also be available from a number of retailers such as Best Buy.

MTS and SaskTel will both launch the iPhone 5 on October 28th.

In the US, it sells for US$199 for the 16GB model, US$299 for the 32GB model and US$399 for the new 64GB model with a two-year contract through AT&T, Sprint, and Verizon.

KoodoKoodo revealed today via Twitter that it will flip the switch on its LTE network on September 21st. The confirmation was in response to a question about LTE coverage in Toronto so we know that at least one city will be covered.

No further details today were given but it just so happens that this is also the date that the Apple iPhone 5 makes its Canadian debut. Koodo was among the Canadian carriers confirmed to carry the iPhone 5 when Apple unveiled it last week. Koodo customers look to be set for a double treat tomorrow: An LTE announcement along with an LTE iPhone device.

Koodo did not take pre-orders for the iPhone 5. Will you be lining up or are you already?

Apple iPhone 5Yesterday, Apple unveiled the iPhone 5 and announced that it would begin to take pre-orders on September 14th for Canada and the U.S. (and a number of other countries). The only missing detail was exactly what time would pre-orders begin. We now know that they will start at 12:01AM PDT (or 03:00AM EST).

It will be possible to pre-order the Apple iPhone 5 either directly through Apple or via Canadian carriers that are confirmed launch partners, namely Bell, Fido, Koodo, Rogers, TELUS, and Virgin Mobile.

If staying up late to place your pre-order is not your cup of tea, you will be able to pick up the iPhone 5 starting on September 21st. Be prepared to wait in line though…

The Apple iPhone 5 will sell for CA$699 for the 16GB model, CA$799 for the 32GB model, and CA$899 for the 64GB model with no contract directly from Apple.

Update: Bell has given us the first clue as to contract pricing in Canada. It will start at CA$179.95 with a three-year contract presumably for the 16GB model.

Apple iPhone 5As expected, Apple today announced the iPhone 5. During the presentation, it also confirmed that it will be coming to a number of Canadian carriers. With support for LTE as well as HSPA+ and 42Mbps DC-HSPA+, Apple confirmed that Bell, Fido, Koodo, Rogers, TELUS, and Virgin Mobile would all carry it starting on September 21st.

The Apple iPhone 5 will sell for CA$699 for the 16GB model, CA$799 for the 32GB model, and CA$899 for the 64GB model with no contract. Pre-orders will begin on September 14th with availability to follow starting on September 21th. Bell, Rogers, and Virgin Mobile have already confirmed that they’ll take pre-orders through their sites as well.

When TELUS launched the Samsung Galaxy S II X late last year, it was was one of its flagship devices. Like the TELUS version, it will come with HSPA+ (42Mbps) connectivity.

RIM BlackBerry Curve 9320Koodo Mobile this week launched the RIM BlackBerry Curve 9320. This latest addition to the Curve family features a dedicated BBM key to quickly access RIM’s social network.

Running BlackBerry OS 7.1, it comes with 3G connectvity, a dedicated QWERTY keyboard and a 2.44-inch QVGA (320×240) display.

Koodo is offering the BlackBerry Curve 9320 for CA$50 on the Tab or CA$200 outright.

Koodo MobileKoodo looks to be the latest carrier to jump into the 6GB data plan promotion business. It follows moves by Rogers, Bell, and Virgin Mobile earlier this week. According to an internal document obtained by MobileSyrup, the Koodo “60 Canada-Wide Super 6GB” plan comes with:

  • 250 Canada Wide minutes
  • 5PM early evenings and weekends
  • Unlimited incoming calls
  • Unlimited Text and Picture Messaging
  • Caller ID and Voicemail
  • 6GB data

The plan will be available from July 24th to August 6th. It will be open to both existing and new customers.
