Motorola Canada recently announced the Motorola RAZR V and Gadgetorama yesterday got an early look at this latest RAZR incarnation. Billed as the “RAZR for everyone,” it is very much an evolution of the first Motorola RAZR.

The Motorola RAZR V’s 4.3-inch qHD (540×960) ColourBoost display is a definite improvement over that of its predecessor. It is very bright and the colours are rich and vibrant. It retains the distinctive top chin at the rear where the camera and speaker are located. Without having played too much with it, this looks like a nice evolution for the RAZR family.

The video below gives you a taste of what you can expect:

The Motorola RAZR V will be available starting in Q3 from Bell Mobility, Videotron, Virgin Mobile, WIND Mobile, as well as a number of retailers. Pricing was not announced.

WIND Mobile looking to expand through partnerships

WIND MobileWIND Mobile’s parent company, Globalive Wireless Management, is looking to expand its network by partnering with regional telecommunications and cable companies. It is already talking to a number of regional players about agreements to share networks, sites and marketing for its WIND Mobile brand.

In an interview with The Globe and Mail, Tony Lacavera, Globalive’s chairman and chief executive officer, said, “It’s never been more clear that new entrants have to work together. We can’t get enough spectrum in the next auction, so we have to find ways to partner.”

Canada has a number of smaller regional operators that could help WIND Mobile expand its network. Among those are EastLink in the Maritimes, Vidéotron in Quebec and Shaw Communications in the West.

Lacavera also did not exclude wireless outright spectrum purchases from other new entrants in a bid to secure more spectrum.

WIND Mobile now has over 430,000 subscribers. It operates in 12 Canadian markets and has plans to continue expansion in 2012. It had been rumoured to be looking to acquire Mobilicity late last year.

WIND Mobile ended 2011 with just over 400,000 subscribers. The latest financial results presented by Orascom, a major WIND Mobile investor, shows that the Canadian carrier continued to grow in Q1 2012, adding another 12,000 subscribers to top 415,000 in all.

WIND Mobile Q1 2012 subscriber numbers

WIND Mobile’s ARPU remained stable at CA$27.30, dropping only CA$0.10 over the same quarter a year ago.

The filing also reveals that WIND Mobile is likely rethinking its threat to skip out on the upcoming 700MHz auction scheduled for early 2013:

WIND Mobile is assessing the 700 MHz spectrum auction rules and although clearly advantageous to wireless incumbents, there is a prime 2X5 MHz band available in certain regions that could be beneficial to WIND Mobile’s long term strategy.
