HTC One in silverAs expected, HTC today unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, billing it as “a bold step forward” rather than simply another specification bump. Along with it, HTC also introduced the latest version of HTC Sense. Called New Sense, it comes with a number of new features including HTC BlinkFeed which acts as a live homepage, HTC Zoe, a camera app, and HTC BoomSound for improved audio.

“People today immerse themselves in a constant stream of updates, news and information. Although smartphones are one of the main ways we stay in touch with the people and information we care about, conventional designs have failed to keep pace with how people are actually using them,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. “A new, exciting approach to the smartphone is needed and with the new HTC One, we have re-imagined the mobile experience from the ground up to reflect this new reality.”

HTC BlinkFeed will provide live content on your homescreen. Along with some 1,400 partners who will provide content, it can also display information from your social networks.

Declaring the “era of the megapixel” over, HTC also unveiled its UltraPixel camera which gathers some 300 percent more light than a traditional one, promising “astounding low-light performance.” It also introduced HTC Zoe, a new camera app that can capture photos and a short 3 second video simultaneously. Much as the BlackBerry Z10 does, it also allows you to eliminate blinking eyes from your shots. Other features include enhanced 360′ panorama, time sequencing and object removal.

HTC BoomSound consists of dual front-facing stereo speakers with a dedicated amplifier, Beats Audio integration, and HTC Sense Voice which can boost call volume and quality in noisy environments.

Here is a closer look at the HTC’s One specifications:

  • Processor: 1.7GHZ quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600
  • Operating system: Google Android with New Sense
  • Cellular connectivity: LTE/HSPA/EDGE/GPRS
  • Other connectivity: GPS/GLONASS, 802.11 a/ac/b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC

The HTC One will launch in 80 countries with 185 carriers. It will begin to ship in late March. In Canada, Bell, Rogers, TELUS and Virgin Mobile are all onboard. Pricing was not announced today. In the U.S., AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile will offer the HTC One.

Samsung

With other a month to go before MWC 2013, rumours are flying fast and furious as to what devices will be announced at the event. At least one of those is now a near certainty after being confirmed during an interview. Korean website iNews24 reports that none other than JK Shin, President and Head of IT & Mobile Communications Division, confirmed that the company will unveil an 8-inch version of its Galaxy Note tablet (the Galaxy Note 8.0?) at MWC 2013 taking place in Barcelona next month. No details about the device were revealed

Earlier rumours suggest that the Galaxy Note 8.0 will come with a 1.6GHz quad-core Samsung Exynos processor, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, an 8-inch WXGA (1280×800) Super Clear LCD and the Samsung S Pen technology seen on other Note devices.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 would slot in between the smaller 5.5-inch Galaxy Note II and the larger Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet. Even with rumours that the upcoming Galaxy Note III could sport a much larger 6.3-inch display, the 8-inch model would remain a nice compromise between the smaller and larger models.

All should be revealed in just over a month at MWC.

It features a new temple from which to escape. You’ll make your way through forests and even have to use zip lines and mine cars in your bid to get away with the cursed idol. And chasing you will be a “bigger monkey.”

Like the original version, Temple Run 2 is free to play but in-game purchases wil allow you to play new characters and get new powerups faster than simply by collecting coins.

Temple Run 2 is now available as a free download for iOS devices. An Android version is expected to follow perhaps as early as next week.

Porsche Design P'9981Porsche Design yesterday a black version of its luxury P’9981 smartphone. Specifications-wise, it is identical to the original P’9981 launched over a year ago. The all-black model is made of a stainless steel frame encased in black plastic with a hand-wrapped leather backing. Like the original, it comes with a customized version of BlackBerry OS 7.1 with Porsche Design icons and the Porsche font. It also includes a premium BBM PIN to help identify other P’9981 users.

“Since the beginning, our brand has been identified with the colour black,” said Juergen Gessler, CEO of the Porsche Design Group. “Our first product was a completely black watch. It was a revolutionary product and was a sensation all over the world. As is typical of Porsche Design, the colour black had a functional significance. The “Chronograph I” was inspired by the non-reflective design of racing car controls, with everything in matte black apart from the instruments. The aim was to ensure a clear and easy-to-read display. The Porsche Design P’9981 Black follows this tradition.”

As a quick reminder, the Porsche Design P’9981 is powered by a 1.2GHz processor, the aforementioned BlackBerry OS 7.1, a 2.8-inch VGA capacitive touchscreen, a QWERTY keyboard, 8GB of onboard storage, a microSD card slot with included 16GB card and a 5MP rear camera.

The P’9981 Black may not be for everyone but if it’s the smartphone you have been waiting for, it will be available starting in mid-January through Porsche Design stores worldwide and online. In Canada, it will be available at Porsche Design Toronto in Yorkville for CA$2,050.
