Samsung today launched a teaser site for a mysterious device called the Samsung Overachiever. With a single indicator light, it’s clear that this is not a new handset or tablet. The page where you can sign up does ask about carrier preference so this could well be a USB modem offering 4G connectivity.

Any thoughts on what the Samsung Overachiever could be?

HP Pre 3 not to launch in US

HP Pre 3After HP announced plans to get out of the webOS device business (and leaving webOS dangling in the wind), it should come as no surprise that the HP Pre 3, announced at the same time as the HP TouchPad, will not go on sale in the US (and likely Canada). HP has not scrapped sales entirely but will focus on “limited markets” instead.

An unlocked version of the HP Pre 3 will reportedly go on sale in both France and the UK for US$75, a fraction of its expected unsubsidized price (France currently lists it at €349 and the UK at £299). There is no word yet on when the sale will start but it could be any time based on how quickly HP reduced the price of the HP TouchPad.

A word of caution for anyone thinking of importing one to the US or Canada: The radio bands are not fully compatible and will only provide limited 3G AT&T connectivity and EDGE with T-Mobile USA.

HP cuts US$100 from HP TouchPad price in US

Posted by  Comments Off on HP cuts US$100 from HP TouchPad price in US
Aug 102011

HP TouchPadThis past weekend, HP offered a US$100 rebate on the HP TouchPad in the US. Initially meant only for two days, HP today confirmed that the price cut is permanent.

As you may be aware, over the weekend, we offered a $100 instant-savings promotion through both our consumer and commercial channels. Despite the very short runway, we were pleased with customer response and, as a result, have made the decision to implement a $100 price drop on the U.S. list price of the HP TouchPad, enabling both HP and our channel partners to be even more price competitive in the marketplace.

The HP TouchPad is now selling for US$399 for the 16GB version and US$499 for the 32GB version. The price drop may give it some traction against the Apple iPad and most Android tablets which sell for US$499 for entry-level 16GB Wi-Fi models.

It looks like the price cut will follow in Canada as well. Best Buy and Future Shop for example are already selling the TouchPad at the new prices.

Samsung Galaxy S IISaskTel was not joking when it announced that it would offer the Samsung Galaxy S II for CA$79.99 with a three-year contract. This is a great price considering that Bell and Virgin Mobile are offering it for CA$169.99 with a three year contract.

There is a small catch though: The price is only in effect until August 1st according to information obtained by MobileSyrup.com. After that it will go up “to a new price to be determined.”

If a three-year term is not your thing, SaskTel is also offering the Galaxy S II for CA$249.99 with a two-year contract, CA$449.99 with a one-year contract, and CA$619.99 with no contract.

The Samsung Galaxy S II is now available from SaskTel but you should call ahead as many locations will not receive stock until next week.

HP offers webOS early adopters $50 rebate on 32GB TouchPad

HP TouchPad

HP this week announced a CA$50 rebate on the purchase of the 32GB TouchPad. But there is a catch: The offer is limited to people who already own a webOS smartphone.

When the first webOS phone came out, a lot of you took a chance on our new platform. We appreciate your support — as customers, as champions, and even occasionally as our most thoughtful critics — and we’d like to make it just a little easier for you to experience the latest version of the power of HP webOS.

The $50 rebate is valid until July 31st on the 32GB model only and applies to both Canada and the US. Proof of ownership of a Palm Pre, Pre Plus, Pixi, or Pixi Plus will be required. It looks like owners of newer devices such as the Pre 2 or the Veer are not eligible though. You should have further details of the offer in your inbox.

The HP TouchPad will be available in the US on July 1st and in Canada on July 15th. The 16GB model will sell for US$499 (CA$519.99) while the 32GB one will sell for US$599.99 (CA$619.99).

ASUS continues its “Pad or Phone” teaser campaign ahead of Computex. Below is the latest image released:

Upcoming ASUS device

Are we looking at a smaller 5- to 7-inch tablet? If so, how does the netbook with a “twist” teaser fit into this? Could this be a smartphone that docks into a convertible netbook/tablet hybrid accessory?

Any thoughts?

15 percent discount from Proporta for Halloween

Posted by  Comments Off on 15 percent discount from Proporta for Halloween
Oct 312009

Proporta

I just finished carving up the last pumpkin here at Gadgetorama headquarters. Soon, it will be time to head out for a little ‘Trick or treat’ fun with the boys. Proporta is also celebrating and is marking the day with a 15 percent discount.

It’s almost that time again, when the undead walk the streets, hand in hand with witches, ghouls and goblins, and no doorstep or pub is safe from the hordes in fancy dress… Yes, Halloween is just around the corner, and whilst you may be feeling a little too old for trick or treating, apple bobbing or dressing up as an unconvincing skeleton, there’s always a time in life for a little rebellious carnival spirit, and sticking two fingers up at the man.

That’s what Proporta thinks Halloween is all about, and whether that carnivalesque tendency expresses itself through Zombie walks or just getting very drunk, you’re going to need something to protect your devices. For that reason, Proporta would like to offer all customers 15% off this Halloween, so that you can get on with the celebrating and not worry about anything else. Even a vampire needs to know his mobile phone is safe, at least when it comes to getting a cab home…

To get your 15 percent discount, use the promocode PUMPKIN in the cart page during checkout. But hurry, the offer is only good for Halloween!
