It’s not Friday just yet; our Weekend Fun feature is running a day early today because there is good news for those who have been waiting for Temple Run 2 to make it over to Android. Launched last week for iOS devices, it has already topped the 20 million download mark.

Temple Run 2

As you can see from the preview below, the game has been updated with new features but remains true to its predecessor as well. For example, one new feature gives each different character its own unique ability.

Temple Run 2 is free to play. Like the original, in-game purchases offer you the change to play new characters and get new powerups faster than simply by collecting coins.

You will have to run faster; that monkey chasing you is much bigger now!

Temple Run was a massive hit, topping 100 million downloads back in August 2012 and now over 170 million. If you’re ready to run for your life once more, Temple Run 2 is now available for iOS devices. Without straying too far from the original, Imangi Studios have brought a few updates that should keep the game fresh.

Temple Run 2

It features a new temple from which to escape. You’ll make your way through forests and even have to use zip lines and mine cars in your bid to get away with the cursed idol. And chasing you will be a “bigger monkey.”

Like the original version, Temple Run 2 is free to play but in-game purchases wil allow you to play new characters and get new powerups faster than simply by collecting coins.

Temple Run 2 is now available as a free download for iOS devices. An Android version is expected to follow perhaps as early as next week.

After a few delays to fix some last minute bugs, Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is now available for select Android devices. Much like ite predecessor, Grand Theft Auto III, the game is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

From the decade of big hair, excess and pastel suits comes a story of one man’s rise to the top of the criminal pile. Vice City, a huge urban sprawl ranging from the beach to the swamps and the glitz to the ghetto, was one of the most varied, complete and alive digital cities ever created. Combining open-world gameplay with a character driven narrative, you arrive in a town brimming with delights and degradation and given the opportunity to take it over as you choose.

To celebrate the big event, Rockstar Games updated the game with new graphics, character models and lighting effects, as well as several new mobile-specific features including an intuitive, fully scalable and customizable user interface, new camera controls, upgraded textures, greater resolutions and increased draw distance.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is available for CA$4.91 through Google Play. Note that you will need about 1.5GB of storage space for all the game files.

Imangi Studios today announced that Temple Run has been downloaded over 100 million times since it was first released for iOS devices a year ago today. Apple iOS devices accounted for 68 million downloads and the Google Android version another 32 million downloads.

“We never imagined that the game we were making and loved would be so well received around the world,” said Keith Shepherd, co-founder of Imangi Studios. “The last year has been incredible for us, and we are grateful to fans of the game. We hope to be able to provide them with more entertainment from the brand for years to come.”

Temple Run also appears to be addictive (something I can attest to). Since it has been available, some 10 billion sessions of Temple Run have been played. These amount to about 54,000 years of game play!
