HTC Desire CFido and Rogers Wireless today launched the HTC Desire C, an entry-level Android 4.0 smartphone.

The HTC Desire™ C brings the power of Android™ 4.0 in a compact, stylish, affordable smartphone. Beats Audio™ integration provides studio quality sound for enjoying music and video while a 5MP camera lets you snap high quality photos and videos.

Fido is offering the HTC Desire C in either red or white for CA$30 with a two-year contract or CA$200 with no contract. For its part, Rogers is offering it in red for CA$0.01 with a three-year contract or CA$199.99 with no contract. You can order it online from Fido; Rogers is not yet taking online orders but you can visit one of their store locations.

The HTC Desire C is also available from SaskTel and Virgin Mobile Canada.

HTC Desire CIt’s turning out to be quite the day for new devices hitting Canadian carriers. The HTC One X and Nokia Lumia 610 landed at TELUS and now the HTC Desire C is available from both SaskTel and Virgin Mobile Canada. It is an entry-level Android 4.0 smartphone aimed at those getting their “first smartphone or for those upgrading from an existing one.”

SaskTel is offering the HTC Desire C for free with a three-year contract, CA$49.99 with a two-year voice and data contract, CA$74.99 with a one-year voice and data contract, or CA$99.99 on its prepaid plan. Virgin Mobile Canada is offering it for free with the Virgin Mobile SuperTab or a three-year contract or CA$149.99 without any contract.

The HTC Desire C is also coming soon to both Fido and Rogers but no availability dates were announced.

HTC Desire CHTC formally announced the HTC Desire C today, a day after it was accidentally revealed by Vodafone Portugal. As expected, it is an entry-level smartphone running Android 4.0 and aimed at those getting their “first smartphone or for those upgrading from an existing one.”

HTC Desire C specifications:

  • Operating system: Google Android 4.0 with HTC Sense 4.0
  • Cellular connectivity: GSM/GPRS/EDGE and HSPA/WCDMA
  • Other connectivity: 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC (carrier-dependent)
  • Display: 3.5-inch HVGA (320×480)
  • Input: Capacitive touchscreen
  • Memory: 512MB RAM
  • Storage: 4GB onboard and microSD cards
  • Rear-facing camera: 5MP
  • Front-facing camera: None
  • Connectors: 3.5mm stereo audio jack, micro-USB 2.0 port
  • Battery: 1,230mAh
  • Dimensions / weight: 107.2 x 60.6 x 11.95 millimeters / 98 grams
  • Colours: Red, white and black
  • Other: Beats Audio, 25GB of DropBox storage

A variant which adds NFC will also be available. Carriers will choose which version they will offer.

The HTC Desire C will be available starting in June. Among the first countries to launch it will be the UK where it will sell for £169.99 with no contract. There is no word yet on Canadian or U.S. availability.

Vodafone Portugal has accidentally revealed the upomcing HTC Desire C. The unannounced smartphone appears in its May catalog with press shots and specifications. Codenamed Golf during development, the leaked specifications indicate that it will be an entry-level Android 4.0 smartphone.

Rumoured HTC Desire C

The Vodafone catalog reveals the following specifications:

  • Processor: 600MHz single-core
  • Operating system: Google Android 4.0 with HTC Sense 4.0
  • Cellular connectivity: Listed as 3.5G (HSPA?)
  • Other connectivity: A-GPS, Wi-Fi
  • Display: 3.5-inch HVGA
  • Input: Capacitive touchscreen
  • Storage: 4GB onboard
  • Rear-facing camera: 5MP
  • Front-facing camera: None
  • Other: Beats Audio

The HTC Desire C has been the topic of leaks a couple of times. A leaked press shot was followed earlier this month by some actual device pictures.

The HTC Desire C has yet to be formally announced but its inclusion in the May issue suggests that this will happen quite soon.

The rumoured HTC Golf has surfaced again, this time in a couple leaked pictures. First spotted in a leaked press shot, the new pictures present a very similar device.

ITProPortal‘s source did not provide any additional details on the specifications. Earlier rumours point to an entry-level device that will slot below HTC’s One lineup.

Past rumours suggested the HTC Golf would be released as the HTC Wildire C but it looks set to be known as the Desire C instead.
