Another day, another HTC One (also known as the HTC M7) rumour. The usually reliable @evleaks is back today with a leaked press render of the HTC One:

Rumoured HTC One

The image is very similar to one leaked in mid-January. The major difference is that this time we see the screen and the new HTC Sense 5 user interface. It also shows a new navigation key configuration that drops the multitasking button, keeping only the Back and Home ones. It also hints at an aluminum chassis.

HTC is expected to unveil the HTC One as its latest flagship at a dedicated event on February 19th. Aside from its rumoured 1.7GHz quad-core processor, Google Android Jelly Bean with HTC Sense 5.0 and 4.7-inch Full HD (1920×1080) display, it will reportedly sport a new “ultrapixel” camera with three 4.3MP sensor layers.

The usually reliable @evleaks today tweeted that the HTC M7, likely to be HTC’s next flagship device, will launch as the HTC One.

The HTC One is expected to be announced on February 19th at a dedicated HTC event. It could launch with at least three major U.S. carriers: AT&T, Sprint and Verizon.

The HTC One could also launch with a new type of camera with three 4.3MP sensor layers to deliver images built from “ultrapixels.”

HTC M7 to use “ultrapixels” camera sensor?

HTC

HTC’s next flagship device, the HTC M7, will use a new “ultrapixels” camera sensor that promises to take much better pictures than we are used to from our smartphones. Past rumours have suggested that the HTC M7 would come with a 13MP camera but Pocket-lint has learned that the camera will instead come with three 4.3MP sensor layers (adding up roughly to the rumoured 13MP figure) that will work together to deliver a single image.

Effectively, each final pixel, or “ultrapixel” as HTC will describe it, will be generated using the data from all three sensors. The image generated will not be as large as that of a 13MP camera but promises to be crisper and cleaner and offer better colour accuracy.

Similar techniques have been used by other companies with other devices to achieve similar results. Notable in this category is the Nokia 808 PureView with its 41MP camera sensor.

HTC will make its new Ultrapixel sensor a key feature of the HTC M7 when it is announced. The name will presumably help distinguish it from more traditional higher pixel cameras and emphasize the uniqueness of what it offers.

HTC is expected to unveil the HTC M7 at a press event set for February 19th.

HTC

HTC’s next flagship device, the HTC M7, has received a fair amount of attention ahead of its expected announcement on February 19th. It is unlikely to be the only device HTC launches in early 2013 though. Little has been heard about other HTC devices until today though. The usually reliable @evleaks now reports that HTC has two additional devices in the works. Codenamed the HTC M4 and HTC G2 (not to be confused with the earlier T-Mobile G2), they will round out HTC’s product lineup for early 2013.

With the HTC M7 being the next flagship device, the HTC M4 will hold down the mid-tier level with the HTC G2 being the new entry level model. Here is what we know so far about the HTC M4:

  • Processor: 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon
  • Operating system: Google Android Jelly Bean with HTC Sense 5.0
  • Cellular connectivity: LTE where supported
  • Display: 4.3-inch HD (1280×720)
  • Memory: 2GB
  • Storage: 16GB onboard
  • Rear-facing camera: 13MP with f/2.0 and 1080p video capture
  • Front-facing camera: 1.6MP FF
  • Battery: 1,700mAh

As for the HTC G2, its specifications clearly indicate an entry-level device:

  • Processor: 1.0GHz ARM Cortex
  • Operating system: Google Android Ice Cream Sandwich
  • Display: 3.5-inch HVGA (320×480)
  • Memory: 512MB
  • Storage: 4GB onboard and microSD cards
  • Rear-facing camera: 5MP
  • Front-facing camera: None
  • Battery: 1,400mAh

While the HTC M7 could launch within weeks of its expected announcement (perhaps as early as late February), the HTC M4 and HTC G2 are not expected to launch until the spring. They could be announced at MWC 2013 or even a bit later.

HTC today sent out invitations to a press conference that will take place on February 19th in New York City. A similar event will take place in London as well. No details were given about what HTC would announce.

HTC February 19, 2013 invitation

With earlier rumours having suggested that HTC will unveil its next flagship, the HTC M7, at an event prior to MWC 2013, it looks like we know what’s on tap for the event. Then again, HTC could also surprise us with something else entirely.

The HTC M7 is expected to come with a 1.7GHz quad-core processor, Google Android Jelly Bean with HTC Sense 5.0, a 4.7-inch Full HD (1920×1080) display, and a 13MP camera (possibly with a Sony IMX135 Exmor RS sensor). The fact that the event will be held in the U.S. supports rumours that the HTC M7 be headed to at least three major U.S. carriers: AT&T, Sprint and Verizon.

HTC

An interesting rumour today suggests that HTC may not wait until MWC 2013 to launch the HTC M7. Instead, it will host its own event on February 19th to unveil what is likely to be its next flagship device. The event could be held in London, a location that HTC has used in the past.

Most rumours now agree that the HTC M7 will come with a 1.7GHz quad-core processor, Google Android Jelly Bean with HTC Sense 5.0, a 4.7-inch Full HD (1920×1080) display, and a 13MP camera (possibly with a Sony IMX135 Exmor RS sensor). As for how it will look there are two conflicting rumours (the first and the second). We may know in less than a month which was correct.

A separate tweet from @evleaks indicates that the HTC M7 is headed to three major U.S. carriers: AT&T, Sprint and Verizon. Only T-Mobile which already offers the DROID DNA, has yet to reveal its plans for the device.

Another HTC M7 render or a fake?

A new alleged image of the oft-rumoured HTC M7 has surfaced, bringing with it a bit of mystery and controversy. The image first surfaced on Twitter courtesy of @cypis_. It looks quite different from another image leaked just days ago. Is either one real? If one is, which one?

Rumoured HTC M7

HTCSource claims that two “trusted sources” have confirmed to it that this render is an accurate depiction. For his part, the usually reliable @LlabTooFeR (also known as @Football4PDA) indicates that it’s a fake. To throw a bit more confusion into all this, PocketNow suggests that the render “is not an official HTC render” but is still an accurate representation of the front of the device. The back though is not accurate at all.

Parking aside the fake or real debate for a moment, this latest render shows a device that borrows a few design cues from the Windows Phone 8X and, for whatever reason, sports a realigned button arrangement with the Home button on the right. It also appears to show the new HTC Sense 5.0 icons.

HTC is expected to unveil the HTC M7 at MWC 2013. If nothing else, all the rumours should be settled then.

Curious to know what the oft-rumoured HTC M7 will look like? The usually reliable @evleaks has now given us our first clear look at what looks set to be HTC’s next flagship smartphone. The image reportedly comes from a short animation that shows new users how to install the SIM card into their new device.

Rumoured HTC M7

A couple of details suggest that we are not looking at the final design though. Most telling is that the bezels are not clearly defined. No branding is visible either.

Earlier rumours have suggested that the HTC M7 will come with a 1.7GHz quad-core processor, Google Android Jelly Bean with HTC Sense 5.0, a 4.7-inch Full HD (1920×1080) display, and a 13MP camera (possibly with a Sony IMX135 Exmor RS sensor). The report adds that the HTC M7 will come with an IR port located allowing it to function as a universal remote control.

The HTC M7 is expected to be unveiled at MWC 2013 in late February. It could launch only weeks afterwards. It could have broad distribution, including at least two U.S. carriers. There is no word yet on Canadian availability. It could sell for “just north” of US$600 unlocked.

Rumours paint a conflicting picture as to when the HTC M7 will be announced. It could happen as early as CES 2013 or at MWC 2013 in late February. HTC is aiming for a first quarter launch. It could be headed to at least two U.S. carriers (Sprint and Verizon) and perhaps all four major ones.

HTC

There is little to go on but a tweet from the usually reliable @Football4PDA indicates that HTC may announce its next flagship device, known so far only its HTC M7 codename, at CES 2013. An earlier rumour suggested that the announcement would instead take place at MWC in late February.

The tweet also suggests that the HTC M7 could come with software buttons rather than hardware ones.

A launch by HTC with the rumoured Sprint and Verizon would give it a head start over other flagship devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S IV and the Sony Xperia Z.

Earlier reports have suggested that the HTC M7 will be powered by a 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and Google Android with HTC Sense 5. It will come with a 4.7-inch or 5-inch Full HD (1920×1080) SoLux display, LTE connectivity, and a rear 13MP camera.

HTC working on 2013 flagship smartphone called HTC M7?

Dec 052012

HTCWith 2012 wrapping up, attention is turning to what smartphone manufacturers will offer in 2013. The flagship smartphone space looks set to be dominated by devices sporting 5-inch 1080p HD displays. HTC got an early start with the DROID DNA [product information] and HTC J Butterfly [product information] and appears to be building on those with a new device codenamed “M7.”

There is little to go on for the M7’s specifications but HTCSource suggests it will come with a Qualcomm APQ8064 quad-core processor, a 5-inch HD display (likely the same 1080p HD Super LCD3 display as on the DROID DNA), a 13MP camera, and a uni-body aluminum shell. If so, it may be none other than the HTC Deluxe, a device that has been the topic of recent rumours.

According to Focus Taiwan, the HTC M7 could launch as early as March 2013. In preparation, HTC is already working with suppliers to secure enough components for production of between 4 and 5 million HTC M7s in Q1 2013.
