WalmartWalmart Canada yesterday announced via Facebook that select store locations are now taking pre-orders for BlackBerry 10 devices.

One…two…three – cheese!? Sometimes it’s hard getting your kids to smile at the camera, let alone stay focused for a second. But with Time Shift Mode on BlackBerry 10, you won’t have to keep taking, “just one more”.

Just can’t wait? Pre-orders for the new BlackBerry are in stores now.

It’s not clear if the pre-orders apply only to the all-touch device expected to launch first or to both it and the QWERTY keyboard device as well.

Unfortunately, Walmart does not reveal what locations will take pre-orders. Call ahead before trekking down.

Bell, Koodo, Mobilicity, Rogers, SaskTel, TELUS, Virgin Mobile and WIND Mobile have all confirmed that they will carry BlackBerry 10 devices once they launch. The devices will be unveiled in two weeks in a series of global launch events.

Rogers CommunicationsIf an official launch event was not enough of a sign that BlackBerry 10 devices will soon be available, here is another: Carriers are getting ready for the launch. First out of the gate is Rogers Wireless with an announcement that it began today to take online reservations for the upcoming BlackBerry 10 all-touch device (also known as the BlackBerry L-Series). According to an email we received today:

“Rogers was the first carrier in Canada to launch BlackBerry and first in Canada to launch an LTE Network so we’re thrilled to let you know that as of today, Rogers customers can be amongst the first in the world to reserve the BlackBerry 10 all-touch device online at www.rogers.com/reserve. Full details about BlackBerry 10 including, pricing, availability and specifications, will be announced in early 2013. For more information, visit: www.blackberry.com/BlackBerry10.”

With RIM officially launching its BlackBerry 10 devices on January 30th, all, including availability and pricing, should be revealed just over six weeks from now. For now, you can put your name next to one of these through the Rogers Reservation System. A refundable CA$40 fee will be applied for each reservation. This fee is reversed when your device ships or if you cancel before shipment.

Microsoft delays some Surface tablet pre-order shipments by a week (Updated)

Posted by  Comments Off on Microsoft delays some Surface tablet pre-order shipments by a week (Updated)
Oct 202012

Microsoft SurfaceThe launch of the Microsoft Surface tablet appears to have hit a bit of turbulence. A number of customers in Canada and the UK who pre-ordered the tablet through the Microsoft Store as early as the first day have received emails indicating that their shipments will be delayed by a week:

The release date for the preorder product has changed. The product listed below will now be available on November 2, 2012.

Microsoft has not provided any explanation for the delay.

Microsoft’s online store shows that orders for the 32GB model without Touch Cover will now ship in three weeks in the U.S. It is also “temporarily sold out” in Canada and cannot even be ordered at this time. Other models still show that shipment will take place in “1-2 weeks.”

The Microsoft Surface is scheduled to go on sale on October 26th. Delays with pre-orders could be a sign that there will only be limited Surface tablet availability at Microsoft Stores (and Holiday Stores) at launch.

Update: Good news! Microsoft has looked into this matter and found that the emails were sent to customers in error. It provided the following statement to confirm that the pre-order original shipment dates will stand:

“Unfortunately, an incorrect email was sent to several of our international customers who pre-ordered Surface from the Microsoft Online Store in the past week. All customers should expect their devices by the original date given when orders were placed. Microsoft is following up with customers to confirm their original shipping date remains unchanged, and we apologize for any inconvenience caused.”

AppleApple is expected to unveil its latest smartphone (the Apple iPhone 5 or the New iPhone?) less than a day from now. Following rumours that Apple would start to take pre-orders on the same day comes a report that they may in fact only start a couple of days later. According to MacRumors, their own sources suggest that they will start on Friday, September 14th in the morning in much the same way as last year iPhone 4S pre-orders did.

The report adds that Apple’s online sales support team will be significantly increased as of 0600 ET on Friday morning with higher than normal staffing expected for the rest of the day. This could suggest that Apple will begin taking pre-orders around that time.

The Apple iPhone 5 is expected to hit the street on September 21st in the U.S. and perhaps a few additional countries. Wider availability would then follow on October 5th.
