Here is what is revealed:

  • Operating system: RIM BlackBerry 10
  • Cellular connectivity: LTE (three variants) or 21Mbps HSPA+ (one variant)
  • Other connectivity: GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC
  • Display: 4.2-inch HD (1280×768)
  • Memory: 2GB RAM

More pictures of Research In Motion’s all-touch BlackBerry 10 smartphone have surfaced. The device, which could be known as the BlackBerry Z10, is shown next to an Apple iPhone 4S (for a size comparison). For the first time, we see carrier branding on a BlackBerry 10 device. The device on the lft sports a Verizon logo on the top left.

BusinessInsider‘s source also provided a number of first impressions after testing both AT&T and Verizon variants:

  • The build quality is really nice. The back cover feels rubbery and snaps on sort of like the back cover on Samsung’s Galaxy S III.
  • The screen looks great.
  • The web browser is very quick, just as fast as a desktop browser. It also supports Flash.
  • You can set up separate profiles for work and personal use. This is good for people who want to use one phone for business and play.
  • The new AppWorld store looks a lot like the Google Play store for Android apps.
  • It only takes one minute to boot up.

Research In Motion will unveil BlackBerry 10 and its first BlackBerry 10 devices in less than a month now at a series of worldwide events.

We’ve seen pictures of the all-touch BlackBerry 10 L-Series smartphone (the BlackBerry X10?) and the QWERTY-keyboard BlackBerry 10 N-Series (the BlackBerry Z10?), including this one earlier today. But never have they been seen next to each other. A new leaked image has them side-by-side now. A third device on the left, sports a different keyboard layout (without the frets). Perhaps it’s the recently announced Dev Alpha C device which comes with a physical QWERTY keyboard.

If those high-quality images of the upcoming BlackBerry 10 L-Series smartphone were not enough for you, here is a five minute video courtesy of Tinhte.vn, the same folks who gave us those pictures yesterday:

RIM had stated earlier this year that the hardware design was finished, suggesting that what we see here is what we will see when the device is officially announced. Sizewise, it appears to be comparable to the Dev Alpha device. The video also shows smooth performance and a number of app icons including Box, Dropbox, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Foursquare, and Docs To Go, as well as RIM’s own BBM and recently renamed BlackBerry World.

RIM will formally launch BlackBerry 10 and its first two BlackBerry 10 smartphones on January 30th, 2013.

The upcoming BlackBerry 10 L-Series all-touch smartphone has not been camera shy in the past and does not appear to change anytime soon. It has been caught on camera once more. The new images are quite clear and show it under a number of different angles, including the front and back, and with the back cover removed. Here are just four images:

Looking through all the images, a few details emerge. The L-Series will lose the squarish edges of the Dev Alpha devices and the older London prototypes in favour of more rounded ones. The recently rumoured textured back cover is confirmed as is the removable battery. The power button is located at the top in the center next to the 3.5mm audio jack. It will also sport both HDMI and micro-USB ports.

We’ve seen RIM’s upcoming BlackBerry 10 L-Series all-touch smartphone next to the Apple iPhone 5 and then next to the Nokia Lumia 820. In the latest picture, it shows up next to both these as well as the Samsung Galaxy Note II. Like the previous pictures, it gives us a good sense of the size of the device:

Aside from the myriad of solo pictures, Research In Motion’s upcoming BlackBerry 10 L-Series has been caught next to an Apple iPhone 5. As if that was not enough, it has now been spotted next to a Nokia Lumia 820.

Very little is revealed by the picture. Much as we saw before, the BlackBerry 10 L-Series benefits from a larger display despite a very similar size because it lacks the dedicated space for buttons as it will rely far more on gestures.

RIM will formally unveil its BlackBerry 10 devices at launch events on January 30th, 2013.

The BlackBerry 10 L-Series all-touch smartphone has been caught on camera once more ahead of its official launch on January 30th 2013. What makes this latest photo unique is that the BlackBerry 10 device is next to an Apple iPhone 5, giving us a good idea of its size.

The image reveals that the BlackBerry L-Series will be slightly wider and about as tall despite having a slightly larger display. The key difference is that the L-Series which will rely heavily on gestures lacks a homescreen button, allowing it to fit a larger display in a very similar footprint.

What do you think? Homescreen button or larger display? We are leaning towards the latter ourselves.

Rumour: Launch dates for RIM BlackBerry 10 devices

Posted by  Comments Off on Rumour: Launch dates for RIM BlackBerry 10 devices
Oct 182012

Research In MotionResearch In Motion has been saying for a while that its first BlackBerry 10 devices will launch in Q1 2013. That still leaves a fairly large three month window in which the launches could happen. N4BB has put together a more detailed roadmap based on what it has heard from multiple sources. It extends extends past the first two series of devices to show what RIM could be planning for the first half of 2013.

Things get started in January with the launch of the all-touch L-Series. The QWERTY-keyboard N-Series follows in February. Two more series, the R-Series, the rumoured Curve family replacement, and S-Series, are set to follow in May. RIM will then launch the A-Series Aristo, its rumoured flagship line, in July. With five series planned, it appears that RIM could have more than 6 devices planned.

All the series but the S-Series have been the topic of rumours in the past. This is the first time that we hear about the S-Series. The report suggests that this line will be very similar to the R-Series but come with an older version of BlackBerry, perhaps a refreshed version of BlackBerry 7 known as BlackBerry 8.

Lastly, even N4BB suggests that there is plenty of speculation behind these dates so take everything here with a grain of salt.

Sep 302012

Along with a number of recent pictures of the upcoming BlackBerry 10 L-Series, a leak has given us alleged detailed specifications. Three L-Series models are planned to support different markets. The oft-rumoured BlackBerry 10 London (R072) will be the world version while the Laguna (R069) and Lisbon (R070) are planned for the Canada and U.S. markets. More specifically, the Lisbon is headed to undisclosed Canadian carriers and AT&T and the Laguna to Verizon.

Rumoured BlackBerry 10 L-Series specifications:

  • Battery: 1,800mAh
  • Dimensions / weight: 130 x 65.6 x 9 millimeters

Rumoured RIM BlackBerry L-Serries London specifications

The specifications line up quite well with earlier details but there a few odd details. The operating system is referred to as “Superphone/QNX OS” rather than BlackBerry 10. And despite the Qualcomm MSM8960 SoC sporting Bluetooth 4.0, version 2.1 is listed here. It could well be that these slides are quite old or early draft versions. They could also be fakes.

It remains to be seen if RIM will announce the BlackBerry L-Series and N-Series at the upcoming BlackBerry Jam Americas at the end of September. The company had previously revealed that it would announce both devices at the same time without giving a specific timeframe. Hardware design is complete and the software nearly so and RIM has begun to shop its new devices to carriers in preparation for the launch.
