Sony

Sony Mobile today announced that it has begun to roll out its Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean upgrades for the Sony Xperia T and the Sony Xperia V. Both will also include improved Sony features. “We’ve been working to blend our Sony Xperia software with Google’s Jelly Bean release to create optimum user experiences.”

Aside from the OS upgrade itself, software versions 9.1.A.0.489 and 9.1.A.0.490 for the Xperia T and Xperia V respectively also include updated, more intuitive versions of Sony Media apps: WALKMAN, Album and Movies. There is also a new search function within the application tray to find local apps.

As is so often the case, the update comes with a caveat: “Availability and rollout timing will vary by market and customer variants.” In Canada, the Sony Xperia T is carried by Rogers which expects the update to roll out in “mid-February.”

Sony Mobile also confirmed that the Xperia TX upgrade will follow next month. If the schedule last communicated remains unchanged, the Xperia P, Xperia J and Xperia go will then follow starting in late March. The Xperia S, Xperia SL, Xperia ion and Xperia acro S will then follow in “the subsequent weeks.”

Rogers Communications

Rogers has once again updated its OS Upgrades Schedule found on its Community Forums. All devices on the list are scheduled to receive Android 4.1 Jelly Bean but ETAs for many have slipped a bit.

The Motorola RAZR HD is now slated for its update in early February (from late January). It will be followed by the Sony Xperia T (LT30a) in mid-February. Bringing up the rear are the the Samsung Galaxy S II (SGH-I727R) and Galaxy Note (SGH-I717R) with late February ETAs.

On a more positive note and just in case you have missed them somehow, the Samsung Galaxy S III and HTC One X updates are now available.

Rogers does warn “release dates are subject to change.” There could be more changes so you will have to hang on (patiently) a bit longer. If nothing else, kudos to Rogers for updating the timelines regularly.

Rogers CommunicationsRogers has updated its OS Upgrades Schedule posted on its Community Forums. All devices on the list are scheduled to receive Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in the near future but it’s a mix of bad and good news.

Let’s start with the bad news: Upgrades for the Samsung Galaxy Note (SGH-I717R) and Samsung Galaxy S II LTE (SGH-I727R) have slipped to “Early January” and “Late January” respectively from an earlier “Late December” ETA.

And now the good news: Three devices have been added to the list: The Motorola Razr HD, the Sony Xperia T, and the HTC One X. All three are currently scheduled for “Late January” updates.

Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie surfaces on benchmark result?

With the latest version of Android having been released as version 4.2 with the Jelly Bean moniker, attention is shifting to what Google has in store for Android next. Will it be another dot release or can we start looking forward to Android 5.0? Whatever the codename, Key Lime Pie or some other dessert name, it appears that at least one device is already running Android 5.0.

There is no question that Google is hard at work on the next version and it does appear that Android 5.0.0 has been spotted on the Nena.se benchmarking web site. Hopefully it is not just someone having a bit of fun.

Android 5.0 spotted on a Sony Xperia LT30i?

The device running Android 5.0 appears to be a modified Sony Xperia T. The Sony LT30i is none other than one of the Sony Xperia T variants albeit with slightly different specs. This model appears to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8260 processor clocked at a slightly faster 1.6GHz although is shares the 720p HD display of the original model.

It is likely that Google will announce Android 5.0 sometime in 2013 as Key Lime Pie (or another K-named dessert).

Sony Xperia TShortly after Sony Mobile Communications unveiled its new Xperia smartphone lineup consisting of the Xperia T, V, and J, Sony Mobile Canada announced via Facebook that the Xperia T would be coming to Canada this fall.

We will also have a chance to see the new Xperia T in the latest James Bond film Skyfall which opens on November 9th: “The Bond Phone is a stylish gadget keeping 007 wired to Q on his next mission.” Q could be quite busy if all Xperia T’s come with this feature!

There is no word on which Canadian carriers will offer the Xperia T. Rogers would be a good bet if only because it currently offers the Sony Xperia Ion and offered the Xperia S previously.

The DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) may have inadvertently revealed the official name of the upcoming Sony Xperia Mint (LT30p). According to the test certification document, it will be known as the Sony Xperia T. Giving credence to the name is the fact that the DLNA has now updated the document and removed the reference.

Sony Xperia T branding

Sony has used a single letter naming convention for a number of devices. For example, it offers the Sony Xperia S, Sony Xperia P, and Sony Xperia U. Another single letter model would not be unusual.

The Sony Xperia T could be among the devices that Sony is expected to unveil at its upcoming August 29th IFA 2012 press event.
